Volunteer Ahmedabad

Move the youth, Move the nation.

As part of Indicorps' commitment to developing programs to engage Indians within India to contribute to the progress of their country, we are currently piloting a city-wide volunteer mobilization effort in the city where we are headquartered. As part of this initiative, Indicorps focuses on popularizing volunteerism, building NGO capacity to intake volunteers, and developing incentive structures to make voluntary service a part of the culture.

India is a nation full of talented minds, infinite potential, unending opportunity and fresh young ideas. Every young person has a dream for our country, but they lack the proper channels to effectively participate in the development of this nation. More than 75% of Indians are under the age of 35, with almost one-third between the ages of 25 and 35. This group holds enormous capacity to contribute to India if offered opportunities to serve.

Launched in October 2004, Volunteer Ahmedabad (VA!) is capitalizing on this population by promoting the spirit of volunteerism in the citizens of the city where Indicorps is headquartered. We are developing a model that has the potential to transform the face of community development in Ahmedabad and in India by encouraging common citizens to utilize their skills and participate in the efforts of community organizations and government agencies.

If you are interested in volunteering your time, there are four basic ways that you can get involved:

• Give your time and skills: If you have a few hours a week, apply yourself to projects that will improve Ahmedabad. VA works with NGOs and institutions across the city to create opportunities for people like you who want to contribute to the progress of our community.
  
  
• Start a project: If you have an idea to improve your community, take responsibility for a project, recruit others, and start transforming your city. VA will help you bring your own ideas to life and help you make Ahmedabad into the city of your dreams!
  
  
• Spread the message: You can help VA awaken the spirit of volunteerism in youth across Ahmedabad by inspiring others to give. You can get your school, business, company, government agency, media enterprise, or institution active in making Ahmedabad a model city. This needs to be a united effort.
  
  
• Take the spirit of VA home: If you’re not from Ahmedabad, you can mobilize the people of your own city or town by encouraging them to give some time back to their own communities. Work with VA to promote a national culture of public service and volunteerism.
